ALLENTOWN, PA. — In keeping with longstanding community traditions, Congregation Beth Moshiach will not have any Shavuot service this year.
“At Beth Moshiach, our customs and traditions are important to us,” said Messianic Rabbi Kent B. Leavitt. “We have honored this custom of completely ignoring Shavuot since our congregation was founded in 1983.”
Congregational leadership considered the suggestion to add Shavuot observances to the service on the Saturday prior. However, this proposal was rejected. “I received this tradition from my father, who didn’t even know what Shavuot is, nor did his father before him,” Rabbi Leavitt explained.
